Cleaned the Engine Compartment and Added the Engine Cover. The Cover is Gray now. Will paint Her Black But haven't decided on colors for the lettering Yet. I know Yellow will be in the mix!

Engine detailing, start breaking out the q-tips! I went at mine recently with them and actually have medical swabs as well, which are more pointed and get in corners almost perfect. Works well to get the dirt/gunk out of all the corners and hard to reach areas.

If you're doing the cover black I'd say just black with yellow lettering (or vise-verse). Nothing too crazy looking, just nice and simple.

ChibiBlackSheep 09-30-2013 09:40 AM

Also there are companies that make vinyl for the lettering, so you dont' have to worry about taping everything off

I Painted the Cover High Temp Gloss Black, cause I didn't think all that Yellow would Look right. Finding the Comp. Yellow is proving difficult. In the paint list in the auto parts stores there isn't anything Yellow listed. I was thinking Yellow and Red for the letters?

Chib: if you know of any sites were I can find vital lettering that would be Great. I was Also thinking about painting the Alligator Housing the same Black. Just to give it a Finished Look.

06mistreSS 09-30-2013 11:35 AM

Back when I had my yellow 03, I had an auto parts store mix up a pint of the competition yellow (gave them the paint code). I used it to paint my sub box and as touch-up paint. You're right though, that's not a color that's readily available.

Sure, here is the site I was thinking of: Monte Carlo L36 Engine Cover Overlay Decals

They do great work, can work with people really well.

Good job!! J.C

I would watch putting vinyl letters under the hood. The heat from engine may mess them up. My uncle owns a sign shop, so I know how vinyl reacts to high heat. Just a suggestion.

JC Colon 12-28-2013 06:05 AM

BHodges224, ah that would be true if I were getting them from Walmart or placing them directly on the motor. But these letters are made specifically for under the Hood to go on your engine cover. Which stays Farley cool compared to the engine itself!

Mels SS 12-28-2013 10:05 AM

Why dont you just repaint the lettering

JC Colon 12-28-2013 11:42 AM

Hi Mel, I thought about painting the letters myself but then I realized I failed "Painting Inside the Lines" in Kindergarten! Lol
Plus, at just over Half a Century, my eyes just ain't what they use to be. Getting the lettering is the best way for me. But I do wonder if other members who have used them have had any problems due to Heat or fluids getting on them. At any rate I'm not doing anything more with it until I get my trans and exhaust done. So I've got some time.

Mels SS 12-30-2013 12:01 PM

Just sent it to me I will take care of that for you.

lougreen03 01-01-2014 06:15 PM

Looks good so far. It is a lot of work keeping it clean and shiny under the hood. Especially on a daily driver here in Michigan

JC Colon 01-01-2014 06:44 PM

It's hard time keep it clean here in Jersey too Lou. The through a lit more salt in the roads than they need too. We would work hard to keep our Montes clean no matter what. We Love our cars.

Mel, what would you do, and what would it cost my. I haven't even thought of a colour scheme. I think it is going to depend on what color hoses and spark plug wires I can get! But I was thinking Blue, Black and Yellow.

Mels SS 01-02-2014 10:14 AM

I would paint it what ever you would like. Just call me when you want and we would take care of this

I am digging that Yellow!

JC Colon 02-23-2014 07:59 AM

I'm gonna have ta go to a body shop to match the paint. There actually not enough Competition/Competition Yellow Monte's produced. So the only way to get the paint is to have it freshly mixed.

I bought a set of these and they do work fantastic. Took 5 minutes to apply all lettering. Looks like I painted them. Well, not like I painted them or they would look awful. How about like a professional painted them.

KingWord 04-16-2015 12:14 AM

its nice to see someone taking care of their monte and maintaining it,i spent a week with mine taking various parts off and using degreaser and wiping everything down,it still looks horrible though,im probably about to pop the hood and do it again, but this is for an 01 and its never been cleaned or well taking care of until I got it

Mels SS 04-16-2015 07:51 AM

JC any updates on the engine redo?

JC Colon 04-16-2015 10:10 PM

Nah Mel, I had to spend my time getting My Minion mechanics Sound. Now that I am in Wa. and 96% of the mechanicals are done, I will have time to get to work on the engine bay and body. I think I am going to have to get her Repainted. There are Acid Rain stains on the hood, roof and Trunk. I want to get the Cowl hood with the 2 nostrils and the Other Fin for the trunk. Like on the 07s.
But I've got to do the UIM and LIM, the Tensioner and Power Steering Pump. So i figure when I take those off I can go ahead and do some Major cleaning under the hood.

Mels SS 04-17-2015 09:13 AM

Good luck my friend and keep us updated. And cant wait for the finished product.
