I have a 2003 SS. Does anyone know how to disable the daylight running lights?

How to disable DLR for a 2003 MC

After an all morning ordeal I figured out how to disable the DLR system. Firstly, the removal of fuses (as I tried them all) caused negative reactions either to other lighting or caused the service soon light to stay on. The only real way to disable this is to relocate the photo sensor to an always-dark location. This sensor is located on the dash panel just left of the vent which is black and domed shaped. Here is what I did to remove it. Note: The photo sensor will have to remain plugged into the electrical system, as it will cause the service soon light to stay on if removed. Your dash and radio lighting will be darker than normal as well as your car will think it is dark outside.


Remove the following:

Driver side fuse cover

Driver side pillar cover:
To do this, start at the top rear section of the pillar cover where it meets with the rear upper pillar cover pulling it from the clips. Loosen the lower front pillar cover where it meets the floor/kick plate cover. Once the two ends have been loosened pop the cover about the midway part of the window towards the passenger side.

There are two separate pieces associated with the dash, one being the foam dash pad and a plastic insert located between the foam dash pad and the windshield. You will want to loosen (Do not remove) the plastic dash cover/insert. The reason I noted not to remove it is because there is a foam pad that appears to have been glued in place between the windshield frame on the dash cover which if removed does so in pieces. What I found best to do this is a very long fat flat head screwdriver being careful not to pry on the foam dash cover work the cover upward as close to the clips as possible. Note: you will only need to loosen the plastic dash cover midway or just enough to get to the photo sensor. Twist the sensor counter clockwise (this one I am not 100% sure of, but it does twist or lock into place in one direction or the other) to remove it from the dash panel. Once removed tuck it in under the foam dash pad away from any clip attaching points. Once confirmation that your mod worked re-install the dash cover, pillar cover and fuse cover.

well this is how i get my lights to stay off......before you start your car push your parking brake just one click and leave it like that....but as soon as you let it off your lights kick on.....im sure with just one click your parking brakes dont rub

I tried that with my 2003 SS the first day I got it. I've had a few GM products in the past that turned the DLR's off with the ole emergency brake trick and was pretty upset they changed that set up on mine. [sm=thanx.gif]

I wonder if GM just recently changed the parking brake set up? It would be nice to know the year cut off if there is one.

I did find out after I purchased mine that I could have and should have requested the DLR system disabled before I signed on the dotted line. I've heard most dealers will get rid of them for the sake of a sale. Hindsights 20/20 I guess.

they probably changed that when they changed the body from my granny lumina body style to the more monte carlo look

The running daylight lights are a pain. now why couldnt they have a choice like some chevy car and trucks. I mean really it makes it hard to tail anyone with your lights on:D
