car covers? any suggestions?
 

i didnt really know where to post this thread so i figured detailing would be a good place cause its in line with keeping care of my monte.....this winter i bought a beater car so my monte will no longer be a daily driver in the bad months (i really love the car and want to preserve it) sadly i have no garage space and cant really afford to store it at the crazy prices im getting. so i was wondering if anyone on here has a car cover that they use on their montes? prefferably one thats very thick patted so it wont scratch the paint and will do the most protection against rain and the dreadful new england snow

I need one also, the best for outdoor storage and any suggestions for covering up the wheels and tires with a separate cover also? I do have the tire totes from tirerack that I can store wheels in, but I was thinking if those would be good for outdoor storage over the wheels also?

You need to go probably one size more than they recommend for a Monte Carlo... I had to get a bigger size. Get some clips and put extra bungee cords on it.. they slide right over the nose of a Monte Carlo, leaving your hood exposed. Also, make sure you pay good money. The cheaper ones let water go right through them.... takes atleast a $90 cover to hold out the rain. Usually, if it doesn't specifically say it holds out rain, it don't.

But what about the high winds and the cover sliding over the car in the dead of winter?

A great cover is a good investment.

Eventually I sprung for a CALIFORNIA CUSTOMWEAVE from California Car Covers. This thing was $500 before it was at my door, but the BudChev is regularly parked in a Lagoon like environment. I would best desribe the fabric as a very fine woven nylon. Its not really very thick, but it is water resistant, very compact when folded and very durable. After 2 years it is still like new. It does not pick up and hold dirt like previous covers I have owned. This is important because I slide the cover on and off daily and any dirt produces fine scratches that add up over time.
I'd recommend this cover, but would note that it is remarkably thin and thus does not absorb any impact of whatever element. But it holds up excellent again rain and snow.

it matches my cars theme! haha i just want somthing thick to really protect it from the snow =\

Why does it need to be thick to protect from snow? Hail yes, but snow will not dent a car...

I'm more worried about wind moving back and forth over the car with the cover on?

im figuring that the thicker the cover with padding the more protective it will be against the elements

Most thicker covers are like a plasticized paper towel - not very durable. Those and the heavier ones with cottony under padding hold dirt and grit. Avoid anything fibery underneath - they do as much harm as good
