2001 LS body skirt

The body skirts on the LS comes in a godawful grey. After seeing some of the SS models (esp the intimidator), I really want to paint the body skirts a metallic color (probably a shade to match the stock wheels).

I have never done any body work. Is it possible to pull the skirt off of the car? Or should I just mask the upper part of the body?

Or should I really just shell out the dough and let a body shop take care of it?

Anyone else pulled these off?

Hi Ryan,
I have never done it, but if I did attempt to ? I would
find several body shops, and get a estimate on what
they would charge first, and what they tell you is involved
to do it correctly.
Then once you know the cost $, and whats involved.
Then I would make the decision `if you want to attempt to
do it yourself.
I like leaving paint work to the pro`s : )
Especially on a super looking Monte Carlo.
Please be Patience, and maybe one of our MCF members
have already done this and can post what is involved.
Good Luck from `Space

Have not removed the skirts so no help there. When I had my wrx skirts painted it was $200 to do it.

Meh, to take them off, its just a few screws and a couple clips. Just work slow and make sure you have all the screws out before you pull.

As far as painting, i'd just have a shop do the painting, but remove the parts and reinstall them yourself.

The body skirts should be held on with a few plastic push pins and a bunch of clips running along the length of the car. Maybe a screw or two also, but not sure. If you do remove them yourself, do it slowly. The clips tend to break easily, so expect to have to replace some when you take the skirts off. I don't know how much they are now, but they're pretty cheap.

If you're confident in your painting abilities, then do it yourself. If not, leta painter do it.

One small thing.
Skirts are not solid, they flex and regular paint is not recommended and specially if you remove them.
Once removed and painted, you'll do some flexing to them to re install them and if the paint has no flex additive it'll begin cracking as you put it back on.
Paint Scratch.com has spray bombs if your thinking of doing it that way with flex agent it it if you ask for it.
400 grit wet sand, spray multiple layers, 600 wet sand, clear coat and 800-1500 on the clear then polish.

i asked a bodyshop to paint mine and they said there is no warrenty for that skirt becouse it is textured and the paint may not stick even if sanded. im sure its not a problem if done properly. oh well.
