Default Getting new wheels n tires from tire rack... Tpms?

I plan on getting new wheels and tires from tire rack and having them mount the tires on the wheel, balanced and shipped ready to be put on myself...

My question is regarding the tpms. Can I get away with not running any tpms sensors in my new wheel/ tire combo?

Id like to save myself he added expense, and can always check pressure the old fashioned way.

Will there be a problem with that?

Will my gauges be lighting up indicating "low tire pressure" because of the lack of the sensors?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if you even have any in your wheels. I know my 2000 didn't but I have a low tire pressure light that will come on. I don't think it measures actual pressure but excessive vibration. But they could've changed that by '03.

I don't think they started that until 06. We have a crude tire monitor system that doesn't require the TPMS.

Wow didn't know that. Thank for the input guys, saved me an additional $160 for a part that wouldn't even apply to my car! It's a 2003 btw.

When I worked at the tire shop the montes were on the list for TPMS, I don't have it in my tires but I also don't have the light going off..

i believe the light only goes off if there is a message sent to the unit, not if there isn't a sensor, i could be wrong tho

Yep, no TMPS on the '03 model. Our system counts the number of hub rotations and sets the low tire light if one gets so far out of sync with the other three.

TMPS was a Federal mandate so if your vehicle came with it from the factory a tire shop will not disable it. They will not sell you new wheels without including the sensors either. If they do they are facing severe monetary penalty if they get caught.

I just installed new rims/tires and theyre 18" 245/55R18. My warning light came on for the tire pressure, so i double checked the pressures (they were ok) and just reset the sensor through the radio, and everything has been good ever since! No unwanted warning lights or bells.
