Top swap

Sorry, for causing confusion, one of my comments certainly could have seemed confusing.
My comment about racers was a reflection on a conversation I had with a guy that built a car that qualified at the salt flats, he said many are using six cylinders and turbos, I didn't mean to imply I want to build a race car. I really just want some more hp than the stock non sc motor, the car was dressed up on the outside when I bought it, I just think that it could use more power to match the window dressing. I have no plans to take it to a track and race it, however I do want it to have more power.
With that in mind, are you saying I should get tranny work before getting a turbo?
I had wondered if all of the stock drive train would handle more hp
I appreciate all the advice and information here, I will try to remember to post complete thoughts and not cause confusion as to what I am thinking about doing.
Also did the L67 use the same tranny as the non SC version?
I have 151K miles on this rig

It's highly suggested from me to get a trans from Triple edge performance when adding more power to the vehicle. Expecially with that kinda miles on the trans. At very least have the money set aside to do it when it breaks. And the trans has different components from sc to na. (Gears, diff, etc)

Sounds like maybe it was a good thing that the original swap plan did not work, as I hadn't given thought to the trans. This is going to take longer for me to save up for. I will have to make a longer term goal than I originally planed.
If I go another route, say finding a L67 and trans, would I expect a noticeable difference?
and leave the door open to turbo later if still want more or would that trans still need worked to add turbo?
I am just trying to consider all my options on a limited budget

I would not go any more than a basic top swap on a stock trans personally, and even at that a trans with 151k is a ticking time bomb even the way is currently sits imo
These trans are like glass

so maybe I should be thinking about trans first or trying to find a l67 with trans, I'm just leary of buying a used motor and trans.... buyer beware comes to mind.
I did learn of a local shop that tunes the computer. he starts at $100 to buy the vin should I consider having adjustments that way while I save more money?
Thanks again for you time and information

The best route to go i think would be to top swap it. You'll get more power for fairly cheap, run it til the trans goes, then get a new one that's better. Or if you can find a good deal on an L67 engine/trans just swap it all in. Pretty much all these transmissions go at some point, stock or modified.

Triple edge performance how does that work? do you have to send them yours for rebuild or send the old one in sorta like a core
I'll have to check them out and start saving more, hope their site is nube friendly as I don't know any numbers other that it's for the GM 3800 II

You'd place an order with them, and you find a local shop that'll swap the transmissions out, tep sends the rebuilt one, shop swaps them and your old one goes back for a core refund. N/A 3800 uses 4T65E and the L67 uses the 4T65E-HD

A rebuild from tep would pretty much negate the difference. Sometimes axle ratios can vary between models and applications. Whenever you're ready, email the guy Dave and he'll make sure you get what's right for your car.
