Don't believe the cable TV shows; most hod rodders will tell you that a good build takes time (and a bad one even more so.) Exhibit A is the case of Johnny Martinez of California, whose 1929 Ford pickup won a class award at the Grand Nationals in 2013. It doesn't look complex, but the project took Martinez 17 years — a time that, as Roads & Rides shows in the video above, included pauses for family life and two encounters with cancer. Today, Martinez gets to enjoy his car as he always envisioned he could, and what else can anyone ask for?
