Newbie with an '83 Monte
Hey guys, my name is Luis. I'm 19 and a student at FIU in Miami, FL. I have an '83 Monte Carlo that was originally base trim, but now has a 5.7L 350 small block with an Edelbrock 600CFM manual choke carb (for which I installed a choke cable), auto trans, and mild crane cams. I got it for $2K
I bought it a month ago with the said engine already in it from another young guy who couldn't afford this project (guy had a couple of Mustangs as well, definitely had his hands full). The engine is in great condition, all the cylinders are in great shape. The body and trans are great as well. The main issues lie in the exhaust system (completely beat up and leaking) and the instrument cluster (also beat up and does not function). Everything else is less significant and easy for me to handle. Already worked on several things. I'd list everything I'm gonna do here, but the post would be waaaay too long haha.
This being my first project car, its the first time I really start getting my hands dirty with a car, just learning the hard way as I go, when I have the time. Right now I intend on it being just a cruiser, nothing flashy, just fixing whats wrong, then I'll think about performance mods. She runs great, but I have a reliable '05 Neon that I use as a daily driver for going to school and whatnot... I've been reading around this site since before I bought the Monte in anticipation of everything I had to learn, just decided to get in on the fun now
