Default New here, new to the Monte.

Hey everyone. I'm Matt. I just bought my first Monte Carlo a few days ago. Always loved them. My uncles always had them while I was growing up.
I picked up a 2005 Monte Carlo LS. Please don't knock me for the 3.4. I'm satisfied with it.
I love the car, it drives super nice.
My only thing is: I have some generic Goodyear Viva II's on it and they are noisy as HECK! It sounds like my dads lifted silverado!

Though I'm in Ohio and the tires are almost brand new, I am going to keep them for now and hopefully get something better in the spring/summer.

Anything useful that I should know about the LS? (Other than being underpowered and not having any aftermarket parts) I'm not looking for a super fast race car. Just a reliable nice looker!

THanks!

Lol. I just read a lot about it before I bought it. Pretty much everyone said it is underpowered. I like it. I think it's got plenty of power for a smaller v6. But then again, I never drove an SS or even a 3.8 at that.

Welcome to the forum! Where in Ohio are you? I'm about 20 miles east of Cleveland.

As for the 3400, that's actually a good drive train. It's not as powerful as the 3800, but they do surprisingly well! My '94 Grand Am has a 3100 (early version of the 3400), been really reliable and has over 214,000 miles on it. My wife has a '05 Impala (that generation Impala is a 4 door Monte), 3400 with 150,000 (we bought it December of 2010). Been a GREAT car!

As for after market, there are some things you can do with upping performance on a 3400. One thing is getting a set of L67 coils (found on the 3800 Series II SuperCharged engine).

Thanks Maniac- I am in Canton, which is about 50 miles or so south of Cleveland. Although I am spend a lot of time Cleveland.
The coil upgrade seems interesting. I might actually do it. I do like modding cars but I didn't buy the MC to specifically mod it to be a badass car. Afterall, having it 3 days, I am convinced it is a pretty badass car as it is!
I'll probably slap some nice rims on it this summer and do a few exterior things.
My car is the dark red- maroonish. I was thinking about some black stripes - but I am afraid that will make it look too racy. Lol

As an FYI - I would buy the L67 coils used (not worth more then $25-$30 total). I actually put a set on my 3100 Grand Am, my L36 3800 Monte and just added to my wife's '05 Impala. Not bad to put a little pep into the car.

Anycase, there is a LOT of stuff you can do with these cars (performance, looks, tons of stuff). You'll find most of them on this forum too

Thanks man, I appreciate it! I'll have to look on ebay. Is it a pretty simple swap?
