Need Advice on 2002 MC 207,000 miles for 4,100$
Glad to be a member of your forum and I figured I ask here since this group seems the passionate and educated Monte Carlo owners on the web. I'm looking to buy a used car after crashing my 1998 Chevy Cavalier. The car I'm looking at is a 2002 Silver Monte Carlo LS with 207,000 miles and is in decent condition. Just some minor scratches and dings, but does have a little bubble up on the paint around the rear fender on the driver side. The interior is in ok shape. It is at a new and used car dealership in Southwest Virginia and the car is from the area. The Kelly Blue Book value is around $4,400 and the dealer came down from $4,995 to $4,400 and I think I can bring him to $4,100-$4,000. My questions are this, Does this seem like a good value? I think it is, but the only thing scaring me away is the 207,000 miles on this car. What are some your thoughts on the durability of this model year or your own experiences with the car. I love the car, It calls my name at night! Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

There are better deals out there. The 3400 is a good engine (I'm running the 3100 in my '94 Grand Am, almost identical to the 3400, has over 215K on it and running strong still).
to pay more then $2000 for 3400/3800 powered car beyond 150,000 seems HIGH to me. I find buying a GM v6 around 100,000, about 7-10 years old and well maintained could usually be found for about $3000-$4000. Montes I think have a higher value to them. But again, you can do WAY better then that.
Realistically, well maintained 3100/3400/3800 engines can see about 200,000 miles (the guys on the Bonneville forum claim to have a list of things to do on a 3800 to see 300,000 miles without a problem). I feel anything after 200,000, you hit the car jack pot.
