left bank running lean
i have been having this code comming up for quite awhile and ive changed the air filter fuel filter and tonight the car wouldnt start with out beating the fuel tank do you think that a failing fuel pump was causing this code to come up??

Hi 'Jason,
It sure sounds like it could be the problem. How many miles on your Monte ? Is it the original fuel pump ?
What is the code ? Sounds like the pump is sticking 'if it works when you hit the gas tank (?) I'd first check for a bad connection & if there's no connection prob (?), I'd consider getting a new pump

p0131 and p0171 it says p0131 sensor circuit low voltage (bank 1 sensor 1)
and for p0171 it says system too lean ( bank 1) car started today without hitting the tank i did park it on ramps before i went to bed last nite

I assume you have a 2000-2005 Monte? Without looking up your codes myself, based on what you posted about P0131, you have a bad O2 sensor or damaged wiring. If you replace it, use a Delphi or AC Delco. Do not use BOSCH (too many people have had issues, Delphi and Delco have the best results).
P0171 could be a result of playing off a bad O2 sensor (your P0131 code). Putting those two codes together, I'd just change the upstream OS (on the back of the exhaust manifold). This has a lot to do with the car's fueling. Start there.
You codes should go away then. At that point, if you still have to hit the fuel tank, I'd look into the fuel pump.

changed the fuel filter it was very dirty its only been about a month since i changed it and cleaned the mass air flow sensor it is starting today without hitting gas tank but codes haven't changed yet so you think all the problems could be caused by o2 sensor and maybe very dirty fuel filter??

i got the o2 sensor it is bosch but i couldnt afford the other one they did give me a year warrenty after i bought the fuel pump didnt have much money left so i'll give it a try over 350$ for both after taxes the other 02 sensor was double the price and i wouldnt have had enough $$
