Exclamation 02'Monte Carlo SS engine fire

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum but have owned my white 2002 Supersport for several years. While my Wife was driving home from the grocery store last Friday she sensed a loss of power and noticed steam/smoke from under the hood. She immediately pulled over began unloading the groceries within a minute someone had stopped and assisted her at which time my wife lifted the hood to discover that the engine was on fire and again, within seconds someone came running from across the street with a fire extinguisher and put the engine fire out. just some stranger! Probably saved the engine and car really. after looking into this I learned about a recall on this years (2002) model for engine fires. Has anyone had this happen and is there anything I can do about it now that it has already happened? Thanks for your time.

all you can do is fix the damage yourself or claim it on your insurance if you still have full coverage. if you never got the recall done thats your fault not GM's fault is how they will look at it.

on a side note a lot of people lost there 3800 platform cars (monte, regal, gp, impala, etc) from engine fires so your not the only one. sorry to hear about this and i hope everything works out for you!

Thumbs up Thanks Turbo Monte!

I'm pretty sure I can get it back on the road. got several parts and pieces that were damaged by the fire from the salvage yard. The most repairs will be the upper intake plenum, the power control module engine harness, and on of the fuel lines leading to the fuel rail. I've done the plenum before so I'm good there. Thanks for responding!

I think your best bet is to go to the junk yard an pull the harness you need.. because it will cost you from the dealer..

Thumbs up Thanks ZJerry

I appreciate the feedback "Z", it's funny because I called the Chevrolet parts dealership and he couldn't find the part number. He mentioned I would need to piece it together. So, I had already concluded the wrecking yard would be my best option. Especially since it sells for $150.00 and $75.00 if I pull it. So, I will be doing that this Friday. Any precautions you can think of before I hit a wall or something? Appreciate your time and knowledge on this matter! Thanks!!
