Default Volt Light

O.K. guys this is in my other Monte Carlo, it's a '98 Monte Carlo LS with a 3.1L engine. The Volt light came on the other day. But if I keep the rpms above 3000 it goes out. Alternator is about 1 yr old. Battery is about 3-4 yrs old. Swapped the battery with the one out of my '87 SS. Same thing. So is the Alternator bad again, or is it a voltage regulator or something.

Thanks,
R.J.

Your going to have to use a MM ( multi meter ) and test the voltage. With the car running and all the lights on and the A/C on. Check to see where your at. It should be around 14.4 v. I have also seen them around 13.5 and up. But if its around 12V, then its your Alt.

Remember check it while the car is running and all the accessories are on.
