Default How do you remove air from the coolant system?

So I think I have air in my cooling system. I have the gurgling sound in the dash and a while back I checked the cooling system and I accidentally left the cap off the radiator. I went for a drive and found it later. So I believe I have air in the system. Plus I'm getting the low coolant light which I think is when the "air bubble" maybe passes by the sensor?

Anyways I'd like to bleed this and make sure there is no air so how do I proceed.

From what I have done, our thermostat housing has a bleeder nut on it just for this purpose. While the car is running open the bleeder valve until a steady stream of coolant comes out. Close it, let the coolant circulate for a minute and re-open the valve till you get a steady stream and repeat this process until every time you open it there are no more air pockets bubbling forth. Re-fill the coolant level.

You can also elevate the nose of the car (ramp, pull up on a curb etc.), remove the radiator cap and let it run like that for about 10 minutes, that should also purge the system of trapped air. Fill with coolant and you should be good.

Was also told that if your system is sealed and holds a vacuum, run your engine till it's at operating temperature, insure your over flow bottle is full and just shut your engine off. As everything cools it will suck in coolant from the over flow bottle and displace the air.

greg is correct, the system should self bleed through the overflow but if it doesnt use the bleeder on the top of the t-stat housing
