Code P0449

Code P0449
I have a 2004 Monte SS with 3.8lt non S/C. I have recently got a code P0449, it told me to replace the Evap control valve solenoid. I did, but the light is staying on. Now my question is, i have to get this thing threw emissions this month. What else should i be looking at, or should i just take it to the dealership so they can run there diagnostics threw it? The one thing i have heard is the Canister Purge Solenoid Valve. If thats it, where is it located? On top the gas tank? Thanks Mike

RE: Code P0449
The light came on a while ago, i have replaced the Evap canister back by the tank. We then cleared it out, came back on after of a mile of driving, took my code reader to the dmv emissions to try to pass, i cleared it and boom came back on. So im not sure, i was just looking again under the hood, i see a purge valve, it has a pink connector, i took both lines off of it, and tried to blow in it to see if it is free, but it seemed clogged. I do not know if that one is it or if it is supposed to be clogged.

RE: Code P0449
The evap system purge valve cannot cause a code P0449 to set. Code P0449 sets when the powertrain control module detects a problem with the electrical part of the evap vent solenoid or the 2 circuits to the solenoid. The pink wire at the solenoid electrical connector should alwayshave battery voltage when the ignition key is on. The white wire from the evap solenoid connector goes to the PCM. During evap system operation the PCM supplies the ground path for the evap vent solenoid through the white wire. A regular 12 volt test light is all you need to check for voltage on the pink wire when the key is on. You will need a scan tool with bi-directionalcapabilities to be able to command the evap vent solenoid ground circuiton and off to check the integrity of the circuit. Make sure there is no corrosion on the 2 terminals in the vent solenoid connector.

RE: Code P0449
My 03 had that same evap control code also. The autozone guy told me that the gas cap might need to be replaced, that that was causing the problem. I rele didnt believe it at first, but spent the few $ on a new gas cap, and that check engine light never came on again!
