Default Calling all Edelbrock gurus

I have an 85 monte carlo ss. I just replaced the motor with a 355. Dart Iron Eagle heads 72 cc chamber with just a little taken off the block and the heads for trueness. 165 cc runners. Weiland Street Fighter intake. Eagle balanced rotating assembly. 480 lift cam with 267 duration. I ran it in with the Edelbrock 1406 last night in stock form and it appeared to be a little lean. The plugs were lean but not bad. However it caused my headers to glow the first run. We richened it up a little which solved this problem. My question is what jets, metering rods and springs should I be running in the primaries and secondaries where the motor is getting the proper amount of fuel?

I haven't run a Eddy in a dozen years or so.If I remember a 1406 is only 600cfm? don't quote me it's been a while.but the carb might be a touch small for the engine. But like I said it's been a while.I run a holly 670 on mine an that is even a touch small for my set up.

I totally get what you are saying but I know you can get them tuned it. On our spec racing motor we have to run a 500 cfm 2 barrel and we get 350 hp to the rear wheels on the chassis dyno. It is all about adjusting. If it comes down to it, I will buy a bigger one. But, I think I can make this one work.

I may end up having the same problem, dunno. I talked to the edelbrock guys and they just told me to change metering rods and springs and not mess with jets yet that that would richen me up about 6 to 7%. The carburetor was flawless on my 305. They said it would be no problem. We shall see. I broke her in last night and will be running her from tomorrow forward. I need help with a name. She is all black with aluminum wheels.

It's a good size for a 305.As far as a name goes it will come to you.Or if you have kids they'll name it for you.

600cfm is plenty of flow for a 355cid engine. Jet size will only effect the amount of fuel the engine is getting at idle. You will need to play around with the metering rods and spring tensions until you get it dialed in. Since every engine is different there is no specific combination that I can suggest. It can be time consuming dialing it in, but it's just one of those things required when you build a custom engine.
