Default Difference Between Radios/2000-01 and XM

I have a 2000 LS and my radio has an AM/FM button and CD/AUX button. It has a single CD player but no tape. Am I correct in assuming that the radio button needs to say BAND for it to support XM? I am trying to hook up a box for AUX input (uPAC-GMC2) but the radio is not seeing it.

Also, if I get a single CD player radio with a BAND button from an '01 will it work in my '00 so that I can use the XM interface?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Aaron
