Default 2002 monte carlo factory stereo

I'm just tryin to figure out the factory wiring for the stereo. Does that little amplifier in the trunk power the entire system. Or is it just for the rear speakers, and the deck control the front speakers?

I think the amp in the trunk is just for the rear speakers.

The rear amp powers the front and the back speakers.

Let me know what you're wanting to do and I may be able to help you out. I've explored every inch of the factory system, from the headunit to the amp, and back to the speakers. Just don't ask me about colors because I'm color blind... [:@]

I'm looking to put a system in the car. But I'm gonna keep the factory head unit. I procured an Audio Control LC6, where all you have to do is plug the speaker wires in to the unit and you get the Pre-outs that you need for aftermarket amplifiers.

this is what i got

Oh, then I think all you really need to know is this:

Radio 12v
orange
+
radio harness

Radio Ground
black
-
radio harness

Radio Ignition
(Class 2 Serial Data)

Radio Illumination
gray (dimmer)
+
radio harness

Factory Amp Turn-on
same as power antenna wire

Power Antenna
white
+
radio harness

LF Speaker +/-
tan - gray
+,-
radio harness

Notes: If equipped, the amplifier is under the rear deck.

RF Speaker +/-
lt. green - dk. green
+,-
radio harness

LR Speaker +/-
brown - yellow
+,-
radio harness

RR Speaker +/-
dk. blue - lt. blue
+,-
radio harness

I don't know if you already had that, but that's all I really needed when I did my system. This is everything coming out of the stock headunit though, not out of the rear amp.

thank you, i must say that wireing the LOC is easy and it is much harder to run the power wire in the car. i hooked up a old MTX 10' 400w to a 300w amp and it sounds pretty damn good for what it is, next i just need to swap out the speakers. i must say that if you go to best buy and get the pigtails for the factory plugs for the speakers it is much better and easier to install, no cutting and not wiring at all, just plug it in.

Hey everyone! I have a 00 SS and its got the amp in the back. I have a very irritating problem where the whole sound system does not work most of the time, but pccasionally Ill get sound out of the speakers. HU works just fine. Tried replacing with another known working radio, same issues. No chimes from IP. Used to be where it would cut out occasionally, now it only comes on, but very rarely and for maybe 1 second at a time. Yes, one second.

the only other thing I can think of is that there is wiring under the carpet that goes to speakers or the amp that is shorting... someone point me in the right direction?
