Default SLP Cold Air Intake on 3400 and Airbox 3400 vs 3800

I have a 04 monte with 3400 and i really want the SLP intake (im aware of wizaired and zzp i just cant fork out that kinda cash). anyway ive seen them on 3400s:
but i just emailed SLP to double check that slp21039 will work here was their reply:
Our cold air does not fit a monte carlo with a 3400.
Someone may have mods to make it fit however we have never done it.
Regards,
joey
What do you guys think? Has anyone run the slp intake (21039) on their 3400 montes? If so is there any moding involved? If no one than does anyone know if the air box on the 3400 and 3800 are exactly the same because if so then the slp intake should fit on a 3400 right?

Typically the problem is that the MAF sensor is IN the intake tubing for the 3400 and the 3800 it is in the TB, so the boxes don't have to worry about that.

If you can't fork out the money for the wizaired, perhaps look into creating your own?

yeah im too chicken to make it myself. believe me i have thought about it though. sucks that the piping is different from the 3400 and 3800. but the inlet diameter on the 3800 air box is the same as the 3400 airbox is that what ur sayin? because they look the same but if the inlet is a different size then we got a problem when installin the slp. i spose if theyre different i could jut put on a custom coupler.

The SLP box isn't really that great. You should definitely save up for a wizaired in my opinion.

You could buy a used air filter box and make your own. that way you are not out a lot of money and modify it to a cold air and use a k&n filter they are more user friendly and this way the maf stays were it is just idea

Another option is gut your existing air box to open it up for more air intake....
