Default Wider tire on 04 Monte SS supercharged 245/55/17

I was wondering if anyone has experimented with tire sizes. I am 245/55/17 and was wondering how wide I could go without doing suspension mods. I can't really find anything that helps me. Thanks.

255/45/17 nitto 555 here and on factory suspension no rubbing. Keep in mind though it all depends on the wheel offset as well.

Yeah I'll have to check them out. I don't know the exact offset though.

IMO going wider is the wrong direction to be heading. Going from a 245 to a 255 isn't going to make a massive difference in traction. There just isn't enough space with stock suspension and fenders to make a big difference in width.

The better option is to look at how soft of a compound you're running. You didn't specify what tires you've got on there now or what you plan to do with the car, but there are a lot of high performance tires for both handling and straight line performance. The downside is that you'll be replacing tires more often, but you've got to pay to play.

It also tends to be cheaper in the short term to gain traction via compounds versus width. You're going to be buying new tires anyways to go wider, but it could require wider wheels, modified fenders, modified suspension, and modified fender liners - all of which add time and money.

For what it's worth, a 275 is the widest I've seen on a wbody (GP).
