What did you pay for your Monte Carlo?

I purchased my 87 LS from an elderly black man who had a stroke and could no longer drive it. It sat in his closed garage for more than 2 years before he willed it to his grandson who did not really want the car. The 200 4r was bad but had a running 305.
This was in Pine Hills which is in the Orlando area. The car was purchased new in Orlando at Don Mealy Chevrolet. I paid $850 for it and the Car was bone stock w/ 122 K miles.
The stock 305 was pulled out on the eve of Chevy's 100th anniversary. A built 79 Camaro 350 motor and TH 350 trans went in. after it was hooked up for break in we found out the crank was bad and the motor would not hold oil pressure.
So in short order a GM Performance crate 350 was the next motor.
Since it has been perfect. Car runs and drives like new. Will be antique next year.
It took 4 years to get it to the way it looks now.

1977 Monte Carlo landau baroque
I found this old girl in El paso Tx by way of Katy Tx / Willis Tx...shes a beauty in the dust...condition 85% out of 100%..interior shot but body / under body 95 %...mostly cosmetic...why is it called a baroque? ..in 1976 when the chevy big wigs decided to make the last of the big Monte Carlos..(1977) They came up with an idea to get rid of as many big body car extras as they could...in a staff meeting someone suggested they let the buyer pic and choose his or her options alacart...very unusual for chevrolet...that way they could get as many indivudual parts off the shelves...instead of buying packages...want a (Sky roof) not a sun roof...or an extra remote mirror on the passenger side...tell your dealer and pay the fee they would build it...as long as you paid up front for the car...this had the dealers going nuts... $11.00 bucks here $36.00 there...it all ads up to chevrolet...starting price for my car was around $5400.00 plus all the extras...front buckets seats, remote mirrors , lots of extras...a real bargain for $1,000.00 bucks in 2016....39,000 miles...that's crazy for a 40 year old car..in 2017...

Camaro had the Berlinetta. But "Baroque" I had never heard of in 1977.
Impala had the Caprice, I know that a few other makes used the term "Brougham"
on some of their models during those years.
Either way if I got a decent chevy thats 40 years old for a grand I would have a party tonight by god....

My Montes
1st Monte Carlo -- Bought brand new in 1976 for $5,248 -- My first new car
1976 White with Dark Red Pleather Bench, 350 2 Barrel, Rally Wheels and Whitewalls. Did not even have a radio from the factory!
2nd Monte Carlo -- Bought used in October 2009 for $600
2001 Black SS with Black Leather and Moonroof
Bought from original owner with 97,000 miles and spun rod bearing. I swapped engines with a brand new crate engine I drove to Pittsburgh to pick up for $700. At that time replaced control arm bushings, lower ball joints, and outer tie rods. With the trans out I replaced the fluid in the torque convertor, filter, new input and output shaft seals.
Currently has 180,000 miles. Original trans shifts great.
3rd Monte Carlo -- Bought used last Sunday, January 22, 2017 for $3,650
2006 LT3 Antique Bronze Metallic, Cloth Interior
Bought from second owner with 69,000 miles. Low miles, neglected, not abused (I'm hoping anyway). Front tires are shot, couple dings, filthy engine compartment.
I like the 2001 so much that I wanted to get a newer one before I couldn't find one. I learned about LT3s after I got it home.
Had it 4 days now. Needs plates, tires, etc., etc.
Check out the original owner's maintenance log!
