Thinking of buying but...
First I want to know about how well Monte Carlo's hold up. The Monte Carlo is pretty much a perfect car for me, front wheel drive (good for winter as opposed to rear) two doors, good looking, can fit people in the back. I am close to buying a 2003 SS that I found but before i take the dive I would like to know if there are any manufacturer defects or problems? How do they hold up after they have like 100k miles on them, or any other issues I should be aware of? I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks!

I have 160,000 miles on my 2000 Monte Carlo SS (same exact engine as the 03 SS)
I have no complaints. This engine (L36 | 3800 Series II) is a beast. You can't kill these engines. They have a great aftermarket, there are plenty of things you can do with these cars. The only problem is the transmission, but you should get close to 120k-140k miles on that before it starts to mess up a little. But with the amount of 4t65e transmissions out there, sourcing a cheap used one to replace yours is maybe $600 worth of work.
But if you can find yourself an 04-05 SS with the SuperCharged (L67 | 3800 Series II) engine, you will probably like it more (if you want power)
Oh and we recently are going to have a small recall, but it's a quick easy fix and there haven't been any reports of the problem, but GM is being precautionary.

We don't thrash a Monte Carlo, unless it has been trashed.
If the Monte Carlo was not abused, and was taken care of
it's one of the best purchases you can get for the $.

MSNautos.com has a great site with reliabilitity reports
