I have a 2001 red ss and am looking at getting a 2006 white LT...My 2001 has 136k on it and the 2006 has 121k..I LOVE my 2001, but I'm not sure which one would be better?? Just wondering if anyone knew which one is best..!

Just an FYI, the 2001 is considered a 6th gen and the 2006 would be considered a 7th gen.

Would you be looking at the 3.5L or the 3.9L?

You would obviously be getting more power from the 3.9L at 240hp, assuming you're not supercharged. The only problem you may run into is not being able to mod much because there isn't a whole lot for those newer years, 2006 and 2007.

 

The 3.8L engine (that is in your 2001) has been around for a very long time and with proper maintenance it will last a real long time. If the 2006 is just and LT it has the 3.5L engine in it and I really don't know too much about it.

 

Ohh yess, I would do that...Put 5th vs. 6th..Stupid blonde. Anyways the 2006 has the 3.9 in it. I just don't know which one would last longer and be nicer?

 

If I were you I'd stick to the one you have now for several reasons.
1. Thats a **** ton of miles for a 2006 Monte Carlo
2. I never did like the slight redesigned interior, I hate the new gear shifter its so bulky and boring looking.
3. Sure its got a bigger motor but remember its got 121k miles.

Not trying to steer you away from it but when it comes to buying a car the worst thing you could possibly do is to buy a car strictly because of how it looks. Need to run a CarFax on it, possibly even have a mechanic check it out for you too.

 

The 3.8L may last longer just because it's more common and people may be able to help you out more with it on maintenance.

 

Another thing to consider is peripherals that start deteriorating on a 10 yr. old car, it's not only the engine, 10 years of winters is tough on a car.

As with what everyone as said. I would like to add that if you don't have a car payment, you might not want one right now. With the money you save by not having a car payment you can add to keeping your car up and running in top shape. If you are into mods then of course the one you have is the best way to go.

Sure the 06 is 5 years newer then your car but it has only 15k miles less then your car. So the route maintaince (ie alt, starter, etc) that will need to be replace down the road might happen when you have a car payment and make it harder for you to keep it up and running.

Just trying to give you other stuff to think about.

 

Thanks guys! This has helped me a lot. I wouldn't have a car payment either way, but from what you are all saying it would be smarter to stay with my 01. He is starting to have some paint flaking going on, but my boyfriend works at a body shop, so I can get that kind of stuff fixed for practically nothing.

I love the way the 6th generations look way more than the 7th generations, I kind of wish they would have made the 7th gen more "one of a kind." The front ends look like all the other new chevys.
