Default Need Emergency Brake Help

Hey everyone, Our house is up on a hill and so is our driveway. So whenever I get home from anywhere I will set my emergency brake just to help the trans out a bit. However this morning my dad went out and moved my car so my mom could get out of the driveway and he said my emergency brake was on but it wasn't doing anything. I just went out and tried it and sure enough it rolls backwards even when the emergency brake is on which to the best of my knowledge that shouldn't happpen. My dad told me to find out if there is a way to adjust the emergency brake and if not then I may have a busted cable. Does anyone know if it can be adjusted on a 2006 Monte Carlo SS?

Yes, it is adjustable. Where the two rear cables come together there is an equalizer bar that can be adjusted. Make sure the emergency brake pedal is fully released. Looking at the rear brake backing plates you will see the emergency brake levers and a stop they rest against. Make sure the levers are both resting on the stops. Looking at the equalizer bar, you will see a threaded rod on the end of the front cable running through it that is retained by a nut. While holding the front cable tighten the nut until the levers just come off their stops. If you don't have a usable emergency brake after adjustment the shoes may be worn and need replacement.
