Default looking for some Monte info

Nice Forum. I just happened to find out that there are some V8's in the 2006/2007 Monte Carlo's. Are these rear wheel drive cars? I will be looking into buying a black one. Is there any diffences in the '06 and '07 that would make one SS better than the other? I might be interested in one of the supercharged 3.8's that I've read a little about. How fast are those in comparison with the V8 SS? Sorry if these are some basic questions but I get a headache reading on the computer for too long.

the 06-07 monte carlo's are all fwd, even the V8 (probably the most powerful FWD car stock around). the LTZ (step below the SS) has a 242 hp 3.9L V6. The SS has a 303 hp 5.3L V8. Not much difference in the looks at all... I don't even think it has it's own trim pack. I do know they have a different rim though. The speedo might og a little farther.. the rev limiter and the speed limiter are higher. Plus, they're cooler. In 3-5 years you'll wish you had bought the SS. They're much faster than the LTZ. But, they get crappy mileag.e I've read numbers as low as 13 mpg city where the LTZ gets around mid 20;s

No difference between the '06 and '07 SSs to answer that question, only difference for '07 was that they dropped the 3.9L so there were only the LS, LT, and SS. And from what I've heard the 3.8SC and 3.9L aren't much of a match compared to the V8. My 3.9L still pulls decently, I do wish I could have gotten the V8 though, my car is the only vehicle in our family that isn't a V8.

The supercharged 3.8 is no match for the 06 & 07 V8 SS Monte's. Same basic body shape, and weight, but with a much bigger and more powerful engine.

If you can afford the extra expense of the V8, go with the V8. More torque, more horses. One advantage the 2000-2005 Monte's have is more aftermarket stuff available. For now. That may change as demand goes up.

Thanks for the info. I would not have a problem with 240hp, if I find a good deal on a supercharged SS. On the other hand my interest was really peaked by the fact that there was finally a v8 option. I've been driving a Black 96 LS with Leather for 10 years now and it has the 3.1L in it. It's pretty much worn down now as far as having any punch, but when it was newer it was decent. It's been a great car, I can't complain. Except for the intake gasket falling, which I fixed for about hundred bucks. I'm getting pumped. Can't wait to find the right deal.

If you have the money get the V8 SS. I have the 3.9 and I regret not getting the V8 mostly because theres no aftermarket stuff to make it faster. I also regretted getting the 3.4 02' LS and not getting an SS of the same year. I told myself that if I would ever get another car it would be the highest model. So much for that statement. The V8 are going down in price which is a plus for you.

Now next time that I get a new car it would be the highest fastest model.
