I would agree, GM is trying to error on the side of caution and safety at the moment to try and protect their reputation.
And I totally agree with Barovelli, don't hang a bag of concrete off your key ring and you should be fine.

They don't have to make anything new, just order more of it. It's not like they are replacing full ignition switches for people
They are simply taking their liability off the lawsuits by saying that they offered suggestions and tried to prevent excessive weight which was the cause of the issue.

GM's "fix" for this one will be having dealerships add an insert to the key that closes the slot and leaves only a small hole where a key ring can be attached. In the case of this latest recall, GM says the problem is with the design of the key - it does not include replacing the ignition switch, unlike the Cobalt recall where the problem is with the mechanics of the switch.

I have heard of no give card offering. I'm not taking the BudChev in. We took our delivery Cobalt at work in and no such offer was made, but I doubt they would offer us crap in Canada. We get the shaft. But haven't even heard of anyone being gifted

Well, I don't know. I've had my 06 Monte since brand new and the ignition key never presented a problem. The only thing on my key ring is the key and the fob for door opening and closing. However, since I had the rust repaired around the rear passenger wheel well, the repair shop said that I should have my car waxed (90 days after to make sure the paint is cured or whatever they call it). So I figured as long as I'm taking my car in to the dealer for a wax job, I might as well get the ignition key recall taken care of.

The service mgr at my dealer is a know it all d*@k.... I can fix it with JB Weld Quik... and a 1/8 drill ..... and I want have to let them have it for a day to "fix" it ....!!
