General Problems associated with 06/07 SS's?
Hi everyone,
Just recently an 07 Monte Carlo SS has come up for sale with low miles and a price that I'm decently content with.
I find myself becoming increasingly excited about it and have contacted the seller informally about it. Moving up to a LS4 car from my 03 SS would definitely be different in many good ways. Often though I practice reality checking my temptation to jump the gun on what I think are great offers. With a LS4 car would come higher insurance (in my case), higher average gas spending's, and overall higher operating costs compared to my 3800 car I have had now for only 2 years.
My post here is a call for suggestions/advice/comments on the overall reliability of the 06/07 Montes, especially the LS4/5.3/V-8 cars. What in your opinion(s) is the worst part of these cars, cosmetic finish wise or mechanical? Especially in comparison to the 3800 SS of the same generation if one can be made.
I've done basic research on owner video posts on YouTube and some outlying threads on here, but you can never learn too much (at least with Montes). Any help is very much appreciated since I'm not 100% on buying this car outright just yet!
All LS4 owners beware, I may bombard you with questions regarding this issue in the coming week.
Thanks for any feedback.

Serpentine belt tensioner is a common problem
Transmission problems are very common around 100k miles, the weak spot of our cars
But it seems these cars are pretty solid, I've had mine over 2 years now 81k miles and i have put zero money into it to fix it, just oil changes and tires that's it. I say snag one, they are a blast to drive

On my LS4 06 I have had no problems at all. There was a recall on the power steering pump I took it to the dealers they replaced the pump and rack & pinion no charge. I had no problems with the steering prior to the recall and none now.
I have had no oil consumption issues but then my DOD is disabled (Rumored to be the cause of such oil issues)
My 04 Monte has rust beginning on the rear wheel well driver's side my the 06 has no rust at all (But I do not drive the 06 in winter, she is stored in my garage)
Other than that just routine maintenance on the 06 SS is all I had to do (06 has 76,000 miles on her)

well no I do but more than 100 on it per year cause of the Monte Nats.... and ya there was factory dust on it when I got her (LOL)
maybe 700 per year now
And I did do the Route 66 trip in her 5k miles round trip back in 2010 From Michigan to Tucson AZ then from Oatman AZ. back to Michigan
I used road armor on her though, and did an oil change midway. Not one single issue
But thanks Zippy

Sounds great. Thanks for the continued responses everybody. The seller dropped the price another $900 yesterday. Quickly gearing up to sell my current Monte if everything continues to go well!
