Default Drive or Overdrive?

Just curious, do you drive around with the transmission in Drive or in Overdrive? Post your MPGs along with your response too. I was wondering if driving around in Overdrive is worth risking wearing out overdrive prematurely to get extra MPGs.

i never think one way or another about it. if it keeps going in and out i'll pull it into 3, same way with 25 mph towns, i'll use 2 for those alot of times.

Around town ... I leave it in Third. Don't need no Overdrive going under 50!
I pull it in to Second going down-hill, in town, because it coasts at 45 and the limit is 30. Don't need no ticket!
Once the Speedo edges-up over the 50 mph mark ... Drive. Don't need no wasting gas!
Hole shots ... Second. Until the tach gets up close to the zone. Don't need no shifting into Third for getting beat by the tranny shiftin' itself on me.
Miles per Gallon? I got no clue. When the Monte needs motion-lotion it lets me know. I put some more in. Don't need no AAA bringing me gas.

Hi `Matt,
When you had your transmission repaired, what did the
shop advise ?
My last 2 Monte`s I always kept it in Drive, until I was
on the highway over 45+MPH.
Found the below with your question

This subject has sparked debate for years. I was told by dealers to leave it in over drive unless I noticed it shifting in and out of over drive over and over. I was told when towing up hills or driving up long steep grades to put it into drive to ellimante the constant down/up shifting. The only transmissions I have had fail were from racing and a previous owner towing over mountain passes in over drive.

Pretty much the same here. I leave it in overdrive all the time unless I'm doing the 1/4 mile.
