Default Difference between 2002/2004 Monte's

Hello, new to the forum.. Might join under a real name later whenever I get a Monte Carlo.

Anyways, I've been looking for one for a while now. I'm hoping to get an 03-05 Black SS. Just a couple days ago though, one of my local dealers popped up with a 2002 Black SS with 21,000 miles on it. I'm just wondering if someone can tell me what differences there are between an 02 and an 04, cosmetically and mechanically, and if it's worth waiting longer on.. or should I jump on this 02?

It's a little out of my price range at $9,995.. so I'd have to hope they want to come down to around $8,500. Who knows if they will or not, I haven't bought from a used dealer before.

Thanks for any advice

The dealer does have a CarFax on the low miled Monte Carlo that you are looking at.
The CARFAX Vehicle History Report for this
2002 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO SS is available.

VIN:2G1WX15K129363527Year/Make/Model:2002 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO SSSearch Results:9 records found in our database
Ask the Dealer to see it...Make sure it's a one owner, and see if they have the service records...I'm sure that you can work out a deal..
Seller:Randy Wise Buick Oldsmobile GMCCondition:UsedYear:2002Make:ChevroletModel:Monte CarloStock #:B111377APrice:$9,995Mileage:21,372VIN:2G1WX15K129363527Exterior Color:BlackInterior Color:Engine:3.8L V6 12V MPFI OHVTransmission:4-Speed Automatic
I would offer $8500 out the door...
I would also check AutoTrader.com & Cars.com to check out same and similar Monte Carlo's....It pays to do your Homework 4-Sure...I don't think you will find many 2002's with only 21K miles/

Not much difference in the cars 2000-2005 are pretty much identical, 04-05 had a supercharged model available but those are still goin for mid to low teens in price, if that 02 has that low of miles & a clean history id jump on it

2005 model did not have side moldings and did not have a trunk lock.

Also, the 2004 and the 2005 models I believe have more fan speeds on the HVAC too (2000-2003 only had 5), and the DRLs in the 2005s were moved to the low beams for some reason..

this may not pertain to you at all but given the color and specific years you listed i'll say it anyways. there are dale sr. editions that is also black for both the 02 and 04 model years, both have a few differences when it comes to appearance. and i'm pretty sure the 04 "intimidator" is supercharged. good luck

If the black 2002 SS you saw is a Dale Earnhardt Sr edition, you'd know it. It's got a big "3" on the rear roof pillars, and the word "Intimidator" on the trunk lid. Unless you're looking for a supercharged Monte, I'd go for that 2002 with the low miles.

Thanks for the responses.. unfortunately that 2002 one sold before I could do anything. I can't find any Black ones around here.. the only one I'm interested in is a 2005 LT, but it's $10,500 which is a bit more than what I want to spend ($8500)

The 05 LT is the same as an 00-03 SS. And 04 SS if not supercharged.
