Default Autocrossing monte carlo.

Hello, I am new to the forum here. I have a 2003 3.4 litre monte carlo that I recently got as a hand me down. It's about 173k miles on it. At anyrate. I was wondering if anyone on the forum autocrosses a monte carlo?

I am looking to keep the MC running in the stock classes, as outlined by the SCCA rule books. In keeping with that, I am limited in what I can change on the car. I can do exhaust beyond the cat. but nothing before. (so no headers) I can also replace the damper on the struts, or the struts themselves, but not the springs. And tires, as long as they fit on the stock rims with no modification, I can run whatever size. I have most of it figured out at any rate. Just want to see if there is anything better out there, and where I can get it.

I plan to take my HKS straight through muffler that I have on a broken car of mine off the junkyard bound one, and put it on the MC. I know being post cat, won't really open anything up, but maybe a little more sound.

I found that KYB makes the AGX adjustable dampening struts for the MC as well, so I want to get those... at 173k the MC is over due for strut replacement anyhow. Are there any better adjustable dampening struts out there for our cars?

finally, I have selected the tire that I will be using, but size I am concerned about rubbing issues. I want the widest possible without rubbing issues. I am planning on going with Kumho v710's at the size of 245/50/16. but I am wondering if I can go wider. speedometre accuracy is not important for my autocrossing, just wider tires.

Also wondering about installing the oem fog lamps. my car is not equiped with, where can i get some good ones, and is it a hard install? also the stock spoiler, can i install it on my trunk even though the car was not originally equiped with such?

Thanks for your time.

also was just thinking... the seats in the MC are extremely comfy for long trips... but they dont hold my butt in place very well when the car goes side to side... any good seat replacements for driver seat that hold you in place well. i used to have a 90 toyota camry, those seats were amazing at keeping you where you need to be.

also the HKS muff i have is 2.5 inch inlet. what's the stock pipe size?

I haven't really hear of people racing Montes in Autocross because of the size of the car. Do the rules say anything about a cold air intake? That might be a useful mod if it is allowed. I used to own an 06 Mini Cooper S and I know that car was very popular in Autocross because the car handled so well.

The spoiler can be drilled to fit. Surf or pace spoilers are very common on our versions of cars. They dont do much, but make the rear look MUCH nicer.

As for anything else, can you gut the interior? Dropping the weight will help the 3.4 get better MPG/HP.

Not trying to be rude, but doesn't ~175k miles seem awfully high to begin trying to autoX a car? I mean our cars have a tough enough time doing autoX in newish condition, I can't imagine doing it having all the suspension bushings and such worn out on top of that, and I'd think it would cost a good bit of money to replace all the suspension parts.

About the only car I remember doing autoX was Milzy (that was a 5th gen, but its pretty similar)- but he got into drag racing and did the L67 swap about when he started his own shop.
