My '97 Z34 Monte has an oil leak that appears to only take place when the engine is running and is coming from the front of the oil pan area, on the drivers side, where the pan has that slight protrusion in it's shape. I can't be sure yet if it's actually a pan gasket or if this could be stemming its way from some other source even further in front of the pan area. I'm not much of a mechanic and will eventually have to take it in but I thought it would be worthwhile to at least post my question here for others more knowledgeable than myself to see what a general consensus might be. The filter is tight and I will say that even though you can watch the oil dripping from the location I've described, there are areas slightlyfurther in front of this that also have signs of oil collections. Any input would be greatly appreciated.If this turns out to be a pan gasket problem, which seems odd because it only seems to leak when the engine is running,what is invloved in replacing the gasket on this model Monte? I love this car and bought it from the original owner with 84K and it now has 107k, all power, tan leather, black in color,3.4L engine and in very very good condition.

 

I had 2 of those motors. Sounds like a lower intake manifold gasket. They seem to fail once and never again once repaired with the updated gaskets GM corrected. Also make sure you keep that timing belt changed too. Every 60K is pushing it....you don't one to break and bend any valves.
