95 MONTE CARLO Z34 KEEP OR NOT TO KEEP!
Hello All:
This site has been very helpful in fixing some of the problems that I have on my Monte. The dilemma now is that tax season is coming up and I am deciding to either replace my Monte with a newer one or some sort of V8 rear wheel drive car (94-96 Impala SS or Caprice). Funny thing is that both my friend an I have 95 MC Z34's. I stay on top of everyting such as oil changes, flushes, spark plugs, maintenance in general while on the other hand my friend just cares about looks and beats the car to hell and it seems like my car just keeps wanting more and more.
Here is the situation, I know I will get some good money back from taxes and have been weighing the pros and cons on keeping my Z34. This past year I replace the tires, struts with mounts, brake rotors and pad, coolant level sensor, flushed my tranny and replaced fluids, replaced spark plugs and wires, added a new K&N filter (old one didn't look to good anymore) and other little things, the reason I want to keep it longer and just repaint it and add sounds and rims. I have owned the car for 3 years and now hit 120k miles and here are the problems:
1. Fans top working (might be temp sensor or bad ground)
2. Rear valve cover started leaking and most likely the o-ring dist. seal.
3. Timing belt is most likely due already, I drive easy and not hard.
4. Driver side rear control rod needs to be replaced.
5. Paint is starting to peel.
What do you guys think, keep it and put some money or just get me something newer. I'd rather keep it but this engine is just a money pit.
Thanks for reading my essay and below is a link to my car.

RE: 95 MONTE CARLO Z34 KEEP OR NOT TO KEEP!
u post an intersting question...if u r mechanically inclined the first three shouldnt be that bad (the fan problem is most likely the t stat or the colant temp sensor, run ya bout $20 to repace both) but the paint job is gonna be expensive unless u have connections, but think u can have anything painted on u want... if i ever have to repaint my car i know it wont b a plain color, really its up 2 u but u could always go 3.8 supercharged lol

i'd part out and put that tax money towards another car.... it sounds like whoever owned it before you drove the living hell out of it.... what else might go wrong with this car? the paint is peeling... that looks bad and bad for hte car too. the last owner apparently didn't take good care... i take ti this is the 3.4, right? those wern'et good engines anyway. by the time you get that car running good and looking good ,you could have put $5000 towards another car... plus whatever you get on taxes. i'd say to just part out, bid farewell, and get anotehr car.

Actually Cowboy6622, I knew the owner before me. His mechanic is also a good friend of mine. He even gave me the receipts of the maintanence he had done. He also had to get the rear valve cover redone to. The car has never given me any major problems besides the fans not working and one starter back when I had just got it. But thanks Cowboy6622 for the answer to my question. Seems like most people just dislike the 3.4 DOHC engine.

Depending on how you feel about the car, let that be your guide on whether to keep & sink more money in to it or get rid of it.
But I tend to keep cars for a while. Like my very first. I've had it 35.5 years now. Since I was 14.

well i also stated they must have driven the living hell out of it... how does the previous owner drive? sounds like they burned out at alteast every other intersection. of course, MANY on this forum swear the 3.4 is Satan in engine form.
