Does your new battery have the proper CCAs to start the car? I know these cars can require more than usual.

Are the connections all clean?

Yes I purchased the same type of battery that was previously in there.

When you try to start the car:
- Do the lights and needles on the dash behave normally?
- Does the starter make a ticking/tapping noise, no noise or the normal "cranking" noise?

I'm wondering if the car has activated the "theft lock" system (just a random guess). But knowing a little more may help.

Just for peace of mind, look on the battery and make sure the CCA is a number greater than 650

Some autoparts places might not care. This time of the year (depeding on your location) the CCA are a big factor in whether or not the car will start. Other than that, I would recommend just double-checking all of your connections.

It also couldn't hurt to get the starter tested, but I know they aren't the easiest to get to.

Check the ground wire connection where it contacts the body/frame. Check the positive cable (and other) wires at the starter solenoid to insure they are clean and tight. As Jason also mentioned, it may be the anti-theft system is active.
