2001 Monte Carlo SS A/C not working
Okay so I think some of you know I've been having issues with my DIC and A/C not kicking on. Well today it turned on and when I tried to turn the fan up it turned back off, so when it did my frustration kicked in and I banged the side of the dash next to the a/c controls and it turned back on and everything worked after that. For those of you who don't know my issue. Most of the time I start my car my a/c, heat, cruise control, rear defroster, and DIC doesnt work until i've been driving it for a while. Any ideas what I should replace? new air controls? or a new ignition switch?

It's very possible that you're having problems with the A/C Controller. The part that the Temp. controls, Fan speed, and air direction comes out in one piece. I don't know if the older 6th Gens had vacuum controls (for the air direction) but I know the younger ones (~2004 and 2005) had all electronic controls. The fact that you have to hit the thing means that some harness or connection may have come loose. Ironically, my parents had to do the exact thing in their '02 Cadillac STS (when they had it still- car got sold) It turns out that a wire in the dash had a bad connection. The DIC and the Cruise Control issues though, I'm not sure on, considering they're completely different circuits.

If you bang on the dash & it works, it sounds like a lose connection...causing interupted power to your a/c unit.
Do you have a electrical tester & the knowledge to remove & test ? Good Luck & wish you a COOL Ride....

Hum.. Unless there's a short in the wiring somewhere and that supplies power to the A/C, Cruise Control, etc..

I have the same exact issue with my 3.8L 2001 Monte Carlo SS. Well except for it turning on when i hit the side. It all just turns on at random times. I am leaning towards replacing the ignition switch but am wondering if a relay has anything to do with this. I have a multimeter.....but not a whole lot of good that does me when my dumba$$ doesn't know to use it. It's freakin hot in CA and no a/c is no bueno!

That's what's up!! I am going with a stang after this Monte phase I'm in. I ended up replacing the ignition starter switch and that solved the problem. Cost $80 at auto zone and wasn't too difficult (thank god, cuz a Molotov was the next choice..lol) have fun with that G.T.!!
