It's a pain, especially in the car. But to give you an idea you need to pull the driver side axle, lower the sub frame low enough to get the trans side cover unbolted. Take the wiring harness off that's under that cover, unbolt the valve body and Chanel plate and remove them. Then remove 4th hear clutches and 4th hear hub. After that you will have access to the drive hear and driven gear along with the chain. Pull them off and reinstall new chain and gears. Then reinstall all parts in opposite order making sure all thrust washers etc are in place and not shifting around do to the trans being vertical.

If you do this I highly suggest buying a manual showing exactly how to tear one apart and that has all torque specs. And also get trans assembly goop as it's sticky and helps hold the thrust washers and gaskets in place.

This is not a beginner job though by no means and is hours of work to do.

Honestly, I find the stock gearing fine. What I did was adjusted my PCM to change WOT shift points and the trans line pressures. After that, it's a nicer drive.

If your going turbo stay with the 3.29 or even go to 2.93 gears. 3.69 will be too much bottom end and not enough top end for a turbo car. I originally had 3.52 gears and hated them with a passion so I went with 3.11 gears.

Also if your planning of adding that much power you will need a built trans, chain and gears isn't enough of a build. I suggest you contact Dave at triple edge performance for a trans build to hold the power you are wanting to make.

Still, a intercooled z3 kit would get you around 280-300whp and that's plenty to break a transmission. The 4t65e trans in these cars are like glass
