head gaskets

head gaskets
My moms 98 monte 3.1, was leaking coolant into the oil from the intake manifold gaskets. I took it apart and can see where it was leaking, so I installed new gaskets, started it up bled the air from cooling system, now there is air bubbles going into the over flow, but no coolant in oil. So now I'm going to take it back apart to do the head gaskets, I should have done them the first time I took it apart. I don't know much about these engines and don't have a manual. Can I reuse the head bolts, and what should I torque them to? And any other info you think I should know. Thanks

RE: head gaskets
Hey Mc9C1,
Firstly, the head bolts can be reused as long as they are in good shape I.E. threads are ok and they are not bent/warped or corroded. I did a quick goggle search and turned up very little on torque specs, however, any auto parts will and should have these specs available. I would strongly suggest you seek out the Chilton manual for you vehicle that will not only give you these specs but short cuts and detailed explanation of just about every part associated with your Monte.
Now for the bad news. If I am not mistaken, your 98 3.1L has aluminum heads, before you spend your time just replacing the head gaskets you will want to have your heads checked for warp age. Aluminum heads warp very easily under extreme heat.
