Default Change oil pan on 2000 with 3800

Hey,

I am looking a buying a used SS up here in Canada and the car has been rust coated well, but the oil pan looks very rusty/questionable and should be replaced.

I was hoping I could slide it out from below, but from what I've read, I have to lift the motor a bit and drop the craddle enough to get it out. Has anyone else done before, and can offer me some advice? The car is in really good shape otherwise and has been well maintained. It's a 2000 SS with the 3800. I tried the search but it didn't like my oil pan search terms... Thanks, appreciate any help/info

It never likes any search terms. You could just try to jack it up, and see if you could unbolt it and just drop it from where it's at. It seems a little odd to lift the motor and what not. But, there is some pretty crazy **** ya gotta to do fix the simplest of things.

The pan is tucked under the aluminum cradle, otherwise it would be very simple. 3/4 of the bolts are easy to hit. You can apparently support the motor and then remove the u shaped motor mount to get the clearance you need to slide out the pan. It's really wierd, the rest of the car is in great shape, very little rust for a Canadian car, but the pan is shot. I am going to take it to a mechanic friend to get his opinion.

It's a nightmare to do! Search RegalGS.org or ClubGP.com for oil pan gasket replacement threads- it's not an easy procedure for a novice mechanic.

Thanks for the info, I ended up dropping the car off, it's about a 4 hour job apparently. You need some special tools to support the engine and he has something he can use along with a hoist. It's not worth the hassle trying to fight with it using floor jacks on my back.
