For the Heavy stuff...
I use GUNK engine cleaner.. and some serious elbow grease!
I have also used some purple power for those less greasy areas..
For the really light areas a little laundry detergent, and a scrub brush works really well also... All followed by a light rinse/mist spray using the garden hose.. repeat where and when necessary.

I have also used some engine detailer to "Spruce" things up for hoses, wire braids, intake tubes etc... to give it that new car finished look.
Hope this helps Zach!

I'm sure others will chime in with more ideas and solutions.

Tire shine on the hoses works good for me.

I will use the gunk degreaser too on my really grimey jobs, take it to the car wash while the engine is warm, spray on the cleaner, let it dwell for a couple of minutes and then power wash it off. I don't try to intentionally blast directly onto electronics for more than a few glancing passes. I always leave my engine running while doing this. Sometimes my trucks windshield wiper motor will come on and I will pull the fuse for a day while it dries out.

Otherwise I use a solution of a car wash soap and warm water, an assortment of bushes and the garden hose.

My Monte's engine bay is already squared away so it's now just dry rags and some chrome polish and rubber conditioner etc.

Most of the times I just spray on then rinse, but some times I use a paint brush to scrub off some dirt that's stuck on..

I use Gunk Engine Degreaser. I take it to car wash spray it on and wait 5 min.
then spray it off. I know alot of guys say not to use high pressure on the engine bay but I'm almost 32 and have done it since I have been driving with no problems. You just have to wach what you spray.
